Working through Adobe DPS

Adobe has produced a guide to publishing through their Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition. There's not as much content yet as I'd like, but my thought is submit what is done to get it started on the App Store and continue to develop it. The image above is the front image for the guide to submit the iPad app to Apple. It's not exactly a five minute read. I've spent a lot of hours working through the publishing process. You can see how far I got through the checklist below. I'm using an older version of Mac OSX, so it was a rather timeconsuming to find and download the right version of Xcode. Once finding it, the download was fun too, being over a gig. Even after spending most of today and last Saturday working on it, am having trouble getting Apple to accept it. Apples system is not accepting the certificates created earlier in the process. I'm going to have to do some research and trouble shooting.

Content Mock-Up

Quick experimental mockup for content using InDesign CC. Overall, I like the look, but it may be less unapproachable if the audience is students. This approach was not continued.

All imagery is creative commons or public domain.  The article is from Scientific American, which the data and information was originally presented in Nature. The video at the start is a short snippet from footage in Antarctica by Darek Sepiolo.

Second major version of mockup

This version of the mockup was transferred to a local iPad as a testing & development app. It was presented to my advisor on the actual iPad as the developer app. No major content generated at this point. However, successful implementation of the multiple-orientation features in Adobe InDesign as well as a few InDesign Digital Publishing Suite features.

Nearly all features behaved as intended, and only minor changes were needed for functionality.

Initial Mockup

Discussion of a mockup for a public education outreach app on Antarctica. 

This mock up is created with Adobe InDesign CS6. It utilizes digital publishing tools for Android and iPad tablets new to Adobe Indesign in CS5.5 & CS6. The first couple iterations of this version have not been test on the iPad.

This version of the app was emailed as a Flash .swf file to my supervisor/advisor. It was intended to have a video at the start, but apparently they don't embed themselves into the .swf flash file, however, in actual app files it can be embedded. The idea of having a video was later removed due to other concerns.
